Did you know we’re committed to providing real opportunities for you to become a homeowner?
Since 2024, Prime Financial CU has held a bold and compassionate pledge, offering the key to unlock the path toward Affordable Housing.
At a time when homeownership feels increasingly out of reach for many families, buying a house is possible with our grant programs and partnerships with local housing organizations. At Prime, we understand that it’s not just about numbers or profits; it’s about turning homeownership dreams into reality for our neighbors. It’s about building better futures together, rooted in the belief that every person deserves a dignified place to call HOME.
A Purpose-Driven Partnership
In partnership with Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity, from 2024 to 2026, we’ve committed $3 million to new build homes at a competitive low-interest rate to help low-income families achieve their dream of becoming first-time homeowners, and to ensure families can access homeownership without being burdened by overwhelming, unsustainable debt.
Habitat provides families—who have an income of at least $35,000 per year—with the coaching, education, and support they need to succeed in their home-buying journey. Habitat homeowners pay affordable monthly mortgages—often under $950 in some areas—with little to no down payment, typically around $500 plus closing costs. Their payments—which include principal, taxes, and insurance (PITI)—are capped at roughly 30% of their gross income and are typically interest‑free or very low‑interest. Families also contribute the required “sweat equity,” and all mortgage payments are reinvested to build more homes. While details vary by local affiliate, the mission remains the same: to make safe, stable, and affordable homeownership possible for low‑ to moderate‑income families at costs far below traditional market rates.
Driven by our commitment to contributing to the greater good through this partnership, during the 2025 homebuilding season, we showcased the collaboration between Prime Financial CU and Habitat for Humanity at a Milwaukee Brewers game at American Family Field. Both organizations, Prime Financial CU and the Milwaukee Brewers, seized this opportunity to highlight our shared commitment to supporting Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity, amplifying the impact of our partnership through the local community.
These initiatives go far beyond financial support. It’s a reflection of our values, because at Prime, we believe in planting hope, strengthening communities, and revitalizing neighborhoods.
Why It Matters
- Homeownership transforms lives: Studies* show that owning a home improves mental health, physical well-being, educational outcomes, and financial stability.
- Milwaukee’s housing need: With rising rents and a shortage of affordable options, many families are caught in cycles of uncertainty.
- The Habitat for Humanity model works: By combining volunteer labor, the personal effort of families, and the support of community-serving organizations, homes are built with love and lived in with pride.
Prime’s low-interest financing helps close the gap between aspiration and access, making the dream of homeownership a reality for families that once believed renting was their only option within their reach.
*“Homeownership Matters: Impact of Homeownership on the prevalence of Chronic Health Conditions in the United States”, a 2024 study published in the CDC’s journal Preventing Chronic Disease, found that compared with renters, homeowners generally had lower prevalence of several chronic health conditions, including diabetes, asthma, coronary heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease. The study analyzed over 400,000 adults and concluded that homeownership contributes to greater stability, which supports healthier lives.
Building More Than Homes
Each home built through this initiative is a seed planted in Milwaukee’s future. These houses will become safe spaces where children can grow, parents can build a prosperous future, and neighborhoods can thrive in unity. With every nail hammered and every wall raised, Prime is helping build not just structures, but stories of resilience and belonging among community members.
